NaMoPaiMo through the years
My friend Jennifer started NaMoPaiMo to motivate herself and others to paint model horses, during the cold and dark month of February. I have participated every year, though the very first year, 2017, I did not finish. I had issues with primer that caused me to strip. He's STILL not finished, though his body color is pretty much done. I just need to get up the nerve to finish his whites. February has become the month I get most of my painting done.
Völuspá, 2024 NaMoPaiMo model; a silver dapple black tobiano on the Maggie Jenner-Bennett micro "Lyskra." She was a fun challenge, as not only had I never painted a silver dapple before, but the trace clip gave the opportunity to play with the colors and textures of winter and clipped hair. Finished in acrylics and pastels/pigments.
A 2023 NaMoPaiMo's International Model Horse Painting Party horse. This is On the Rox, a blue roan Quarter Horse on a Maggie Jenner-Bennett "Poppyseed" micro. Finished in acrylics and pastels.
A 2023 NaMoPaiMo's International Model Horse Painting Party horse. Pikir is a Maggie Jenner-Bennett Metehan micro, finished to a very shimmery sooty buckskin typical of the Akhal Teke. He had a bit of a mishap during what was supposed to be his final coat of sealer, so it's possible he'll be stripped and redone later.
A 2023 NaMoPaiMo 's International Model Horse Painting Party horse. This is Charmed I'm Sure, a Maggie Jenner-Bennet micro Proud Mary, finished to a flashy chestnut. She's the only micro I've painted eyewhites on, as the show Saddlebreds always seem to be so animated as to have a ring of white around their eyes. Finished in acrylics and pastels/pigments.
A 2023 NaMoPaiMo's International Model Horse Painting Party horse. This is Cailleach, a dappled blood bay sabino Clydesdale mare on the Maggie Jenner-Bennett micro "Annie." Finished in acrylics and pastels/pigments. Her feathers a slightly stained, as are her teeth.
Moonshine N Whiskey, 2022 NaMoPaiMo entry, a Breyer Stablemate Cassidy (sculpted by Maggie Jenner-Bennett). Finished to a slightly smutty palomino Quarter Horse mare, in hand-painted acrylics, pastels, and colored pencils. This sculpture looks like a broodmare, so she's finished as a horse that lives on pasture 24/7, with slightly off-white white markings, a mane and tail that both contain grey soot and plenty of cream, and non-glossed slightly dirty-ish hooves. Getting this sculpture into a new color, I discovered just how adorable she is; I want to pet that little nose and feed her all the treats!
Glitter Bomb, 2021 NaMoPaiMo entry, a Maggie Jenner-Bennett micro Lankin. Painted to a bay, in shades of metallic blue, with a copper/rose gold and silver horn. Everything on him glitters! His base is now covered in glitter, as well (see last picture).
Gulden Penny, 2020 NaMoPaiMo entry, a Maggie Bennet-Jenner "Jessie" micro, painted as a blonde sorrel American Belgian. Yes, this picture is way bigger than the model!
Khodakhrome, 2019 NaMoPaiMo entry, a Sarah Rose mini Khemosabi resin, painted as a bay Arabian stallion.
Silver Smoke Signals, 2018 NaMoPaiMo entry, a Sarah Rose Moxie resin, painted to a bay going grey Quarter Horse mare.
