Foundation Quarter Horses
These are the horses that founded my Quarter Horse herd (and by extension, Appaloosa and Paint herds). While I have always geared towards a cow horse program, these horses are from the era of the truly versatile Quarter Horse. Horses that could work the ranch all week, and match race or show all day, in pretty much every class, on the weekend.
The majority of my herd was bred from these foundation lines crossed on the top modern sires and dams. However, I've also bred forward some of these lines as 100% foundation outcrosses to the modern lines. I have absolutely nothing against the top lines, it is just nearly impossible to find horses that aren't very linebred to the likes of Doc Bar, Doc o'Lena, Smart Little Lena, Peppy San Badger, etc. I want to have a bit of variety in my hobby!
Most of these horses were Breeding Stock Only, unless otherwise noted, intended to breed forward, back before pedigrees were easily found online. However, the majority would have been built similarly as the old Classic Quarter Horse family (old Hagen Renaker molds) - and boy would I love to have each one backed up by such a model! Most would also be around 14.2-15.2hh, instead of 14.3hh or less as the modern cow horse tends to be. They would also generally have more bone and a bigger hoof, since these horses were bred to use first and foremost.
I have been lucky enough to have owned three lovely, mostly foundation Quarter Horses, who caused me to fall in love with the breed and type. While I have gone through phases of being obsessed with cutting, reining, or reined cow horse, with the rise of versatility ranch horse, I find myself drifting back to these solid old using lines.
I have switched computers and moved numerous times since I created the majority of these pedigrees, so I may not have full records. If you have any horses bred from these stallions and mares, I would love to be updated on them!
